Dr. Nafiseh Jirofti is an Assistant Professor in Tissue Engineering at Orthopedic Research Center (ORC) in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS), serving as the Manager of the Bone and Joint Laboratory (BRJL). She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a focus on Tissue Engineering from Sistan and Bluchestan University, which she received in 2011. Following her Ph.D., she spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Orthopedic Research Center in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS).
Dr. Jirofti's expertise lies in the synthesis, development, and enhancement of hybrid biopolymer scaffolds for therapeutic and diagnostic applications within tissue engineering and biomedicine. Notably, she has been a guiding force for graduate students, managing the nanotechnology laboratory setup design at the University of Sistan and Baluchestan for five years.
Her research pursuits delve into the preparation of drug-loaded polymer solutions as bioinks, utilizing freeze-drying, electrospinning, and bioprinting methods for vascular and bone tissue engineering and wound-healing. With a profound focus on interdisciplinary collaborations, she actively engages in research projects that bridge the gap between basic research and clinical applications.
Dr. Jirofti's impactful contributions extend to her role as a member of Iran's National Foundation of Elites, where she serves as a reviewer for international journals in drug delivery, vascular, bone, and skin tissue engineering. Having supervised over ten proposals and published more than 30 journal articles and international conference papers, her academic footprint is substantial.
In her varied roles across academic, laboratory, and hospital settings, Dr. Jirofti gained a holistic understanding of clinical challenges. This experience motivated her to design research projects addressing these issues directly. Actively collaborating with professionals from diverse disciplines, including biomedical engineering, vascular surgery, pharmacy, and orthopedics, she brings a comprehensive and innovative perspective to her research outcomes.
Her leadership and mentorship roles have been pivotal throughout her career. Managing the Fuel Cell and Microbial Research Laboratory during her Ph.D. studies and currently overseeing the Bone and Joint Research Laboratory, Dr. Jirofti has guided numerous researchers in the fields of nanotechnology and biomedical engineering.
Dr. Jirofti's research stands out for its unique approach, systematically addressing scientific gaps identified by surgeons in various clinical fields. This interdisciplinary focus, coupled with her extensive background in chemical and tissue engineering, sets her apart in the field of tissue engineering, ensuring her contributions remain at the forefront of innovative and practical applications.
